LANSING, MI: In its ongoing commitment to employee safety, the Michigan Counties Workers’ Compensation Fund (MCWCF) has awarded its 2026 Loss Prevention Grant to Otsego County. The $5,000 grant will support improvements to a bathroom floor to help prevent injuries from slips, trips, and falls – enhancing safety for corrections officers, work camp officers, and sheriff’s department personnel who utilize the facility.
Supporting Safer Workplaces Across Michigan
MCWCF is a member-owned organization that provides workers’ compensation coverage and risk management services to public agencies across Michigan, including counties, medical care facilities, transit agencies, and other local entities. Through its Loss Prevention Grant Program, which launched in 2014 the Fund invests directly in projects that reduce workplace injuries and improve safety conditions for public employees.
The program operates year-round, allowing members to apply for funding as needs arise. A committee of MCWCF trustees evaluates each request based on its potential impact and urgency, ensuring timely support for emerging safety concerns.
Since its inception, the program has awarded more than $365,000 in grants, funding initiatives ranging from protective equipment for law enforcement to ergonomic workplace improvements.
MCWCF Administrator Tim McGuire emphasized the importance of this proactive approach: “Workplace safety isn’t just about funding – it’s about equipping individuals with the knowledge, confidence, and tools to identify and mitigate risks before they become hazards,” he said. “Our year-round grant program allows us to respond quickly and support our members in maintaining safer work environments.”
