MCWCF issues nearly $20,000 to county agencies for employee safety purchases
LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Counties Workers’ Compensation Fund (MCWCF) has issued grants totaling $19,908 to agencies providing services in five counties to help reduce employee accidents and injuries, the fund announced June 3 at a virtual meeting of its Board of Trustees.
These sums are part of the MCWCF’s Loss Prevention Grants Program, started in 2014. With this second round of grants in 2020, the fund has issued approximately $250,000 over the course of the program.

Keweenaw County | $3,720.00 | Ergonomic work stations |
Livingston County | $4,815.00 | Ergonomic work stations |

Otsego County | $1,373.10 | Ergonomic chairs |

“Due to the fiscal prudence of our Board of Trustees, the fund is able to continue to make these investments in member safety,” said Timothy K. McGuire, administrator. “This is the virtuous circle, with fund members working together to avoid employee accidents and injuries, and the fund taking those savings to invest more money into safety equipment.”
The fund, which now has 82 members, was created in 1979 by the Michigan Association of Counties. Its members include counties, medical care facilities, housing commissions, transit agencies, villages, mental health authorities and other specialty county or multi-county endeavors.
This month, the fund also issued a request to the state of Michigan for regulatory approval to grant premium dividends of $3.7 million to members. If approved, this dividend would be the largest in the fund’s more than 40-year history.
